2016 marks the 20th anniversary of the Maleny Wood Expo: From Chainsaw to Fine Furniture.This iconic event was established in 1996 to promote the sustainable use of beautiful native timbers through the work of local and regional wood artisans. Today the expo is regarded as one of the best wood shows in Australia with interactive demonstrations, hands-on workshops, market stalls offering unique wares and fun kid's activities. Held over three jam-packed days at beautiful Maleny Showgrounds on Labour Day Long Weekend (Saturday 30th April to Monday 2nd May 2016), this vibrant community event is perfect for the whole family to enjoy. All participating exhibitors use sustainably harvested native timbers, weed or recycled timbers. Over the weekend, you'll find a wide range of lovingly crafted timber wares available for purchase. Come along and meet the friendly craftsmen and women and discover one of a kind furniture pieces, traditional toys, musical instruments and everything in-between! There's 'something wood' to suit every taste and budget! Complementing the bustling market stalls is the 2016 Wootha Prize exhibition, which is themed "Against the Grain" this year. Entrants are competing for over $4,500 in prize money. Come along and glimpse the skills of the early timber-cutters who first opened up the Blackall Range, and see the best in both handcrafted traditional and high tech tools.If you want to see craftsmen and women in action, there will be a range of exciting live demonstrations to view, including chainsaw carving, mobile milling, woodworking, trade tools and more. The whole family can also participate in hands-on workshops with WoodShed Workshops and Woodwork for Women. Even the kids can join in a Cool Stool Workshop or the Kids Space, where kids can make and take home their own masterpiece.
