There are three things to look for when on a romantic getaway
1. It has to be quiet! 2. It has to have a fireplace ... and 3. A spa is essential
Once you begin to throw in little extras like: quality biccies, flowers and chocolates neatly placed upon your bed, "earth" shampoo which contains eucalyptus and lemon myrtle, plunger coffee which smells rich and delicious, the little twig of fresh thyme sitting with the soap beside the spa, the smooth wooden floors, cosy verandah along with magnificent views, well, you're on a winner ...
But hang on a minute, I haven't yet mentioned the bed.! Visualise this: a king sized bed that adorns each cottage and wait for it, not only does the mattress have that 2 cm extra woollen layer for softness but, the underlay on top of the mattress adds even more luxurious padding. Ahhh. Unbelievably soft, which equals a night of undeniable bliss.
I was somewhat surprised to find we literally only had to walk 30 seconds to a Thai Restaurant, situated next door. The food was well priced and exceptional. There was also an impressive African restaurant and a unique looking art/craft gallery beside the Thai eatery. Everything within walking distance.
As I slid under the covers, later that night, snuggling into said mattress, I was still tossing up which was my favourite was my number one – the spa by candle light with a glass of wine; the crisp white dressing gowns hanging in the robe; the yummy lemon home made style biscuits; or the amazing mattress which quite frankly, I never wanted to arise from? Yep, I could have quite happily, without a shred of guilt, stayed in that bed for the whole next day, and the next - it was that good. *sigh*
Early the next morning, I awoke, put on the trusty walking shoes and went off to explore. The sunrise pinky hues cast their spell over the Glass House Mountains below. A 10 minute brisk walk from my abode found me standing in awe. Yes, it felt good to be alive. Yes, it was worth the walk to admire these views.
Back at headquarters Maleny View Cottages, I spoke to Elsebeth, who informed me that couples love being able to leave their car in the carpark and walk next door to a choice of restaurants. They also love to soak in the delicious spa and retire by the fire with a good book. I couldn't have agreed more.
We had been upgraded to their one and only penthouse suite, which comes with 2 bedrooms and an extra verandah/patio area, along with a double shower, spa, comfy leather lounge and TV. It's the only suite with 2 bedrooms and this was the view from the sunny balcony.
