A decadent day trip experience for adults
This time of the year is great for day trips from Brisbane to the Sunshine Coast Hinterland. With so much to see and do, it sometimes can be difficult to choose. We found ourselves exploring this wonderful part of our state last week, and ended up here at the Maleny Mountain Wines.
It is hard to miss along the Landsborough-Maleny Road with it's unique 8 metre high barrel showroom. We stopped here and were pleasantly surprised by the wine tasting we experienced. They have a large selection of wines to choose from: something to suit any palate including reds, whites, sweet, dry, fortified and dessert wines.
With the wine tasting you get up to 5 wines to taste free and if you are with others you can choose different wines to cover the majority of wines that they have to offer. Wines with names such as Tibrogagan Sunset, Sweet Sunshine, Maleny Bubbles and Maleny Rose tempt you to try them, even if it just because of their names. The grapes are sourced locally and then bottled out at Murgon.
The pleasant interior of the large wine barrel showroom is also an area where you can sit, take your time and enjoy either a cheeseboard ($25) or antipasto board ($30) with a glass of wine or two. They also advertise the barrel as a perfect location for a wedding and reception.
If you aren't into wine or you are the designated driver, then there is coffee and cake to indulge in as well. The grounds are lovely this time of the year with a lot of the gardens full of blooming flowers and glorious colours so just stopping for coffee to enjoy the ambience is also a great idea.
Other locally made items are on sale in the big barrel as well, along with the history of the area and the big barrel. We ended up with a bottle of white and with the Maleny Bubbles after our wine tasting, which was to enjoy that evening with pre-dinner nibbles.
