Maleny Milk

The kids were rather excited as the bell rang and a line of Guernsey cows sauntered across the valley. We were on tour at Maleny Dairy where you learn about "the process of milk from cow to bottle and everything in between."

When the cows finally arrived, we were all allowed to hand milk a cow, taste milk straight from her udder and feed her new born calf with a bottle. Next we watched the other cows as they were milked by machine - a great educational experience for young and old.

Over in the factory we learned about the pasteurisation process and the difference between skim and full cream milk and our favourite part was taste testing the yoghurt and custard. Now my kids insist we buy Maleny milk and yoghurt whenever we' re in the diary aisle at Coles (in Brisbane).

Be sure to take your own Esky when you visit the dairy to bring home some bargain dairy treats.
