Maldon is an historic town located approximately 160km or two hours drive north west of Melbourne and is near Castlemaine in the
Goldfields Region.
The township of Maldon has a traditional Main Street, historic bakery with wood fired oven, antiques stores, cafés, restaurants, pubs, and gift stores.
The town is regularly host to a number of festivals including the
Maldon Folk Festival held in November each year, the
Antiques and Collectables Fair held in February, the
Maldon & District Campdraft in March and the Easter Fair, which is the oldest fair in Australia with the 2014 fair in its 137th year.
The Easter Fair weekend of activities kicks off on
Thursday 17th April with the Great Aussie Scone Bake. Line up and see the many competitors in Maldon's High Street as they mix up a batch of scones before you. The lights of Tarrengower Tower will be turned on. Other activities include a visit by the Easter Bunny, the Maldon Mini Olympics and a performance by the Maldon Brass Band.
On
Friday 18th April come along to the Open Air Combined Church Service to be held at 10.30am at the Beehive Chimney site in Main Street. In case of inclement weather, the service will be at Holy Trinity in High Street. At 2.30pm there will be a Young Buskers Competition with a number of prizes up for grabs. Registration is from 2pm on the day.
Book tickets for the
Wine and Cheese Train on Good Friday evening. The steam train leaves from Maldon Railway Station at 7.00pm and returns at 10.30pm. Travel options include First Class ($48 per person) or Economy ($38 per person) and includes a complimentary cheese platter. Drinks are available at bar prices on board the train.
On
Saturday 19th April at 9.00am, come along to the Easter market in Fountain Street. Activities include gold panning, music from the Maldon Brass Band and poetry recitals from 11.30am.
The Quilt, Craft and Art show will be open between 10am and 4pm on both Saturday and Sunday at the Blue Light Youth Camp in Phoenix Street. At 7.30pm, watch the Main Street light up with the Torchlight Procession by the Maldon Fire Brigade. Dance the night away in the Main Street after the procession.
Sunday 20th April sees a wide range of events including the Hole in One Competition at 11am in Golf Links Road, Home Made Billy Cart event at 1pm in Fountain Street, Maldon Brass Band Concert at 8pm at the Maldon Community Centre (entry $10 adults, children free).
Easter Monday (21st April) at 10.30am is the Easter Fair Grand Procession along Maldon's High Street followed by the Great Aussie Egg Toss.
