On Saturday 4th June 2016, Vintage Rail Travel/707 Operations invites you and your family to enjoy 'The Maldon and Marilyn Heritage Steam Day Tour' aboard the R707 to the central Victorian town of Maldon and Bendigo.
This is Vintage Rail Travel's first heritage steam train day tour for 2016 and guests will have the unique opportunity to travel in two heritage steam trains and 1890s carriages to Maldon or a heritage steam train to Bendigo for a family day out.
The train will depart from Southern Cross Station (10.45 am), Footscray (10.55 am), Sunshine (11.00 am) and Watergardens (11.15 am) and arrives at Castlemaine Station at 1.15 pm.
Those travelling on Maldon will cross the platform to the Victorian Goldfields Railway and the 1890's XYZ carriages and steam locomotive J549 to depart for Maldon at 1.30 pm and arrive in Maldon at 2.30 pm. Guests will have an hour and a half to explore Maldon before the return train departs Maldon at 4.00 pm for Castlemaine (arriving 5.00 pm), rejoining the mainline train for Melbourne (5.35 pm departure). There will also be a false departure of the train from Maldon, allowing all guests to get a photograph of the train departing in steam!
If you would rather travel to Bendigo (after a 5 minute stop in Castlemaine), you will have two and half hours to explore Bendigo or the celebrated Marilyn Monroe exhibition before the 4.30 pm departure and return to Melbourne. After picking up Maldon passengers at Castlemaine (5.35 pm) the train will return to Melbourne, stopping again at Watergardens (7.20 pm), Sunshine and Footscray to arrive into Southern Cross Station at 7.55 pm.
Whilst onboard guests can purchase premium espresso Cafe Hudson coffee, delicious cupcakes, assorted snacks and cold beverages. The train itself also includes the extremely popular "art deco" Lounge Car 708 carriage, which provides a fully licensed bar service with a selection of ales, wine, sparkling and mixed spirits.
Bookings are now open via TryBooking, with prices starting from $20.
