Malaysia is a popular travel destination - often known for its shopping, its food, and its rich culture. If you're interested in tasting a bit of Malaysia for yourself, this September you won't even have to leave Adelaide. On September 15th the Malaysian Carnival will take place at Victoria Square, where there will be plenty of performances and food stalls to tantalise you throughout the day.



Food is of course a major part of the carnival. Ask a group of Australian food bloggers and you'll usually find a large portion of them have roots in Malaysia - it's a very food orientated place, and 'Malaysian food' covers such a huge variety of dishes. If things like 'nasi lemak' or 'roti canai' get your tastebuds in a tangle, then you'll want to get yourself a bite to eat from some of the many choices available.

You can see the full list of food stalls on the Malaysian Carnival website. Amongst the vendors will be ' Mamak Corne r', an already popular Malaysian restaurant you can usually find on Bank Street who specialise in delicious roti. 'Nothing Over $6.50' promises cheap eats of Malaysian-Chinese street food, and 'Cendol ABC' will have traditional Malaysian desserts. Here's some advice for you: skip breakfast, lunch, and dinner at home, because you'll want to make the most of the food on offer.



Food is also a common theme between the two headlining guests. Poh Ling Yeow of Masterchef fame, a Malaysian born South Aussie, will be there as well as Dr. Ezani Farhana, Malaysia's first Masterchef. Both will be giving cooking demonstrations, which might inspire you to whip up some Malaysian meals of your own at home.

The Carnival runs from 10am till 5pm, and throughout the day there will be performances on the main stage. You can watch traditional dances like Zapin or Sumazau, or Boria theate. Any wedding fans will also love the Chinese, Indian, and Malay mock weddings. All of the performances on the day will highlight the many cultures that make up vibrant Malaysia.

Whether you're planning on touring Adelaide's sister city of Penang, having a food and shopping extravaganza through Kuala Lumpur, or just a beachside holiday, you'll be able to find plenty of inspiration.
