Darling Harbour will transform into the exotic world of Malaysia with the family-friendly Malaysian Festival showcasing all things Malaysian with traditional cultural entertainment, performances, foods, activities and more.

The Festival seeks to promote and raise awareness about the Malaysian cultural diversity to the Australian community through their delicious cuisines and colourful cultural performances. It was first held 26 years ago on the main walkway of UNSW as an initiative of the Malaysian student community. It began as a small event with less than ten food stalls and over the years, this exotic and cultural event turned into one of Sydney's biggest multicultural events!

Be amazed by colourful and exciting traditional performances from exotic dances, to celebrity guest appearances and of course, student performances.

There will be plenty of fun family-friendly activities for the whole family to enjoy, including the Cultural Village which will showcase an array of entertainment for the little ones, including the rich culture of Malaysia, mainly focusing on the three main ethnic groups: Malay, Chinese and Indian. It will be a venue for many attractions and it is also the home to the cosy atmosphere of the Malaysian 'Kampung'.

Be intrigued with the many displays of cultural potteries, jewellery and instruments which will be on display.

If you want the real cultural experience, try your hand at the traditional games such as the congkak and batu Seremban and enjoy the traditional Malay and Chinese wedding ceremonies which will be complete with elaborate props and costumes. Be sure to try on Malaysian traditional outfits and capture the moment at the photo booth!

No Festival is complete without the food and there certainly will be no shortage of this exotic cuisine with famous Malaysian restaurants offering delicious food.

There will be workshops which will include batik painting and Chinese calligraphy and there will also be henna available too.

This festival will certainly be one event not to miss, so scribble in the date and have a fantastic cultural experience day with family and friends!
