The event seeks to promote Malaysia's cultural diversity to the wider Australian community, focusing on the nation's great cuisine and cultural performances. Over seventeen Malaysian restaurants will have food stalls (a full list of participants can be found on the festival website), and Sydney's own Malaysian student population will be providing entertainment through cultural performances. There will also be a performance from Jaclyn Victor, the first winner of Malaysian Idol.
The Malaysia Festival draws big crowds every year, with 24,000 attending in 2011 and 30,000 attending in 2012, and is one of a number of cultural events taking place in Darling Harbour this spring. Others festivals include Ritmo Brazilian Day Festival and the Lebanon Carnival.
