Head to the Shrine of Remembrance Visitor Centre and meet at the reception for their Do and Mend School Holiday Program. Geared towards children aged 4 to 10 years (must be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian), bookings are essential for this free event. The program will run on weekdays only from Monday 3 July to Friday 7 July 2017, and Monday 10 July to Friday 14 July 2017. Sessions commence 10.30am and run for one hour.
This is a hands-on play and making session. It harks back to when resources were scarce during the Second World War when not a lot was available and people had to 'make do and mend', using materials that have had previous lives. How about that plastic curtain ring being reshaped into a piece of jewellery? Or some beetroot juice for lipstick? Popularly themed today as recycling, up-cycling and repurposing, it'll get the kids creative and who knows, a 'designer' could well emerge from this event. Check the website for all details.
