Create a family heirloom with this age-old craft
Rag Rug Workshop - Photo Courtesy of Handmade High Street
Learn to make yarn from sheets and large pieces of fabric and then make into a beautiful heirloom rug for your home. This class is always a laugh as you join with other ladies to rip, plait and sew together in the Annerley store, Handmade High Street.
You will receive 2 hours tuition from owner, Kath who has extensive experience with a variety of crafts including crochet, knitting, sewing and of course, rag rugging. You will also be treated to a glass of champagne and some nibbly food to get you in the Christmas spirit.
Rag rugging is an ancient art which was first used as a way of finding a use for old rags, sheets and other linens which were no longer useful or were threadbare. In the theme of upcycling or 'Make Do and Mend', these rugs are a beautiful way of making something special for your own home or as a gift and it doesn't cost you a cent in materials.
