Tucked between the airport and Canberra city is a bucolic corridor of farmland, lush and green with a backdrop small hills. It's here that you'll find the
Majura Valley Farm Gate shop. The egg van has been retired after a decade of service and the new purpose-built shop is stocked with the eggs and compost which have always been available with the addition of fridges filled with seasonal vegetables and lamb and baskets of fruit fresh from the tree.
On the day we visited, there were eggs, apples, cucumbers, beetroot, salad leaves and sunflowers. For the gardeners, there were sacks of compost and buckets of worm castings. The shop will also offer an expanded range as it grows to provide a hyperlocal shopping experience for Canberrans looking for quality fresh produce grown within walking distance of the shop.
When autumn sets in, the sunflower maze opens and you can wander through a field of cheerful, towering blooms. If you're a dog lover, you can also have a cuddle with the very friendly farm dog, Peppa. She is happy to show you the way around the sunflower maze so long as you offer a tummy scratch or two along the way.
As well as the maze which is a 'look but don't pick' area, there is a separate row of sunflowers offering a cut-your-own experience. There are secateurs at the front of the row to help you snip the freshest blooms in the city which are $2 per stem payable at the farm shop. The maze and cutting area are clearly signposted so please be sure to only take flowers from the cutting rows. There are also plans to allow customers to pick their own corn when the crop is ready.

Payment at the Majura Valley Farm Gate shop is by a self-service checkout and tap and go is available. The farm shop is open from 8am to 8pm daily and produce varies with the season.
