January Midsumma Festival
12 Jan - 2 Feb Alexandra Gardens, St Kilda Rd, Melbourne
This is the annual queer celebration. A suite of arts and cultural events spread over nearly 100 venues throughout Melbourne and Regional Victoria. The festival includes activities including visual art, theatre, cabaret, live music, and public forums.
Australian Open - The Grand Slam Of Asia/Pacific 13 - 26 January Melbourne Park, Batman Ave, Melbourne See the world's greatest tennis players on the courts at Melbourne Park. Remember to take a hat, sunscreen, water and protection from the hot summer sun.
23 - 27 January Royal Geelong Yacht Club & Geelong Waterfront, Eastern Beach Rd, Geelong Reputed to be the largest annual keel boat regatta in the Southern Hemisphere. The free program includes live entertainment, gourmet food and wine, art and craft markets, and fireworks.

Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit, Back Beach Road, Cowes
This has got to be right up alongside the Grand Prix, except this has a trackside camping ground with entertainment! Enjoy the penguins while you are down there.

You don't need to go to Paris to experience these dusk til dawn free events. Cultural institutions, theatres, galleries, restaurants and bars will keep their doors open to provide music, food, film and performances all night for those who are up to it.

Hi Jenni Thanks for your blog. I have been wanting to photograph the Queer festival for some time but didn't know when it was .I live in East Gippsland and wondered if you could tell me the best day to photograph the parade.and from where,I wonder what else is happening for the rest of that period.
