At long last, there is a movie theatre in Wynnum. We welcome the Majestic Cinemas!

It is reported that Wynnum was the home of some of the earliest movie theatres in Queensland. Apparently, there were two on the Esplanade and were very busy theatres.


One, called Crown Pictures, started in 1915, showing silent movies. One man played the piano during the film, another the violin and a lady sang to create the right atmosphere for the movies. There's more information here.

Later, there was a two-storey building with a theatre downstairs and a dance floor on the upper level. It burned down in 1922. The movie theatre, which was opposite the Wynnum Wading Pool, was demolished in 1983. More information on the history here .

For many years, the locals have been hoping for a new movie theatre and now we have one. The Majestic opened up on Berrima Street ,opposite the Waterloo Bay Hotel, earlier this year, and is now the go-to place for movies for the residents.



The theatre is on the lower levels of a unit complex, with plenty of parking on the ground floor and below for moviegoers.



On the ground floor, you'll find plenty of food and drinks to enjoy while watching the movie, and upstairs in the lounge, you can order food from The Waterloo Hotel across the road and drinks too!



It's modern, comfortable and a great place to enjoy a film without having to travel too far if you live in the Wynnum Manly area.



The Majestic Cinemas at Wynnum is a 6 screen complex located in the Lato Baia Apartment Building, opposite the Waterloo Bay Hotel.

There is also full disabled seating and wheelchair access.

It's not far from the Wynnum Central station and other transport options are listed on the website for those who do not drive.
