Mighty Murray accommodation
Maiden's Inn Discovery Park, Moama
View of the Murray River from the Deluxe Cabin deck
Things close by: We visited this are because we love spending time on the Murray. The park has a boat ramp but there are lots of others close by. Just out of town we put our boat in at Five Mile; a great ramp with lots of parking, and good toilet facilities. The main town, Echuca, is only a few minutes drive from the park.
Things that make this special: This park has two swimming pools and a fabulous water park to keep the kids entertained for hours. After 11 o'clock each day, pedal cars can be hired for $10 and Stand Up Paddle Boards are available for $19.
The park has a full holiday program running for the school holiday break. Films are shown on big outdoor screens and there are activities each day.
Rooms: There are cabins, deluxe cabins, powered sites, and more, all with a view of the magnificent Murray River. We loved our cosy little cabin. It had comfortable beds and furniture, and the kitchen even came with a dishwasher! The linen and bedding are provided and the beds are prepared for visitors in advance. The decking was a lovely place to bask in the morning sun.
Restaurants: There is a little shop selling essentials at reception, and also a food truck with family favourites like burgers and chips. More importantly, for the parents, they make coffee, so no one has to go without their morning pick-me-up and can face their holiday caffeinated.
All of the cabins have fully operational kitchens and there is a communal kitchen with BBQs in the centre of the park.
The Verdict: this is one of the best caravan parks I've ever been to. All the facilities are clean and functional, the gardens are well manicured and the BBQs and camp kitchens were in perfect order.
Best thing: Views of water, either the Murray River or the man-made lake in the centre of the park, from every cabin and site. Also, the park is populated by ducks and they quack and waddle all over the grass.
How to get there: Echuca/Moama is two and a half hours from Melbourne via the Hume or the Murray Valley Highway. Buses and trains are available.
How to book: online or through your travel agent. I used Amber Potter from MTA Travel. Ph: 0402 083 976
Price: (per night or packages): We paid $255 for two nights in a 3 bedroom cabin with a lake view.

Tips for Travellers: Try to book a unit on stilts with a balcony facing the river. The views are spectacular. If travelling with other families, request cabins near each other. This is a large park and kids love running between cabins. It's best to know that you'll all be close together.
