Magpie and Stump Hotel - Photo by Cecelia
Fancy some live music on a Sunday afternoon? Drive out of the city to the relaxed historic town of Mintaro to enjoy a light lunch, your beverage of choice and music out on the airy lawn of the Magpie and Stump Hotel, Burra St, Mintaro SA 5415.
We arrived for lunch but the obliging barkeeper still rustled up chips and an exotic pumpkin salad for me. A few people were seated at outdoor tables, socially distanced and enjoying the entertainment.

The sign described the show as "Jazz", but I recognised favourite adaptions of "Sex Bomb" (originally Tom Jones), and the Lionel Ritchie / Diana Ross number one hit, "Everlasting Love". The artist had a mellow voice and cleverly provided his own accompaniment electronically.
After driving around Mintaro, we enjoyed the scenic wine drive through Clare and Auburn on the way back towards Adelaide. I recommend following the signs and sticking to the highway because, on the way up, the GPS picked an unsealed road as a "short cut".
