Experience great wine, art and coffee
Travelling out of Willunga, up Old Willunga Hill, the road winds along towards Meadows. About five kilometres from the township of Willunga, visitors seeking an ideal spot to sit with a glass or two of a fine vintage can sit and admire the views at Magpie Springs. The weather is mild on the range, with plenty of scope for colder climate wines and plantings. This rustic winery now has new owners who have set about revitalizing this setting.
A new entrance and revamp of the facilities have taken place. Including a climbing wall. There are many draw cards for the visitor here. Wine tasting, good coffee and art sit side by side.
Fruit of the vine at Magpie Springs
Wine - One of the first vineyards planted in the Southern Mt Lofty Ranges. Magpie Springs grow all their own fruit for their wine which is influenced by the sandy loam soil, altitude and the cooling afternoon sea breezes.
Art - The Gallery is reserved for specific exhibitions by visual artists working in the fine arts in a wide range of media including painting, printmaking, sculpture, textiles, ceramics, and photography. The current exhibition showcases photography.
Photographers have come together to celebrate their craft… so many people have taken photographs onsite we decided it was time to show off what people are seeing and run a competition. The photographers have had a 3 month period to find their treasures …
Having had full reign over the property during this time, photographers have been coming day and night. This property being a unique site has had plenty to offer from rustic artefacts, flora and fauna, to picturesque settings…meanwhile the vineyard has been at work so images of that ilk were also on offer.
This has proven to be a very interesting and diverse show.
Previously a retrospective of Rita Hall's art work was on show.
Following the photography exhibition there will be two artists showing. Our resident artist Avril Thomas open studio ...AND drum roll.....Internationally known and prize winning artist Michal Dutkiewicz with his original works entitled 'Fantasies in Graphite'.
Opening 2pm, Sunday June 22nd, with an artist's talk.
