Dubai does not play host to many, if not any, independent sweets shops. Cafes and ice cream shops are hefty in number as well as traffic and certain restaurants are known for their sweets, such as Paul Café, but none are exclusively devoted to our sweet tooth.
Nevertheless, where you least expect it there are superb surprises that await your taste buds. Among them is the Magnolia Bakery hidden in the confines of Bloomingdale's department store. It is an odd yet quaint location for eating the sweets, after trying on the dresses of course.
Located at the ground floor of Dubai Mall, it is glowing with happy, colorful and a sweeter than sweet mix of chocolate, ice cream, pudding, cake, tarts, cupcakes and---have I gotten your attention yet? For those hard core sweets specialist, its specialty is in the hand crafted American dessert classics that range from snickers and peanut butter pie to lemon cupcakes.
In the center is a charming and miniature wooden carved fountain with small round tables aligned around it. There I sat with my banana pudding in hand. Warm and moist, it dissolved in my mouth with the feel of its slick moist bread slipping down to my stomach, banana goo and all.
Would I go again to spoil my taste buds into guilty curiosity for the undiscovered? Yes, yes I would.
