Country pub feel with grass roots & top drinks
Maeve Fox is not your typical Richmond pub. Sure, it might attract a few suits and footy watchers, but there's more. Girls sipping spritzers chat with whiskey connoisseurs who rub elbows with locals who are joking with the staff. It's like a country club where everyone is welcome.
Nestled in amongst the corporate offices, construction sites and gritty Richmond life, Maeve Fox is a mid-week haven. It's the sister bar to Katuk so it's top class, but with a down-to-earth feel.
With Bruce the deer calmly gazing out over the bar and bespoke wallpaper brushing up against reclaimed train sleepers, it definitely has a warm country living essence. The upstairs function rooms feature huge chesterfields and beautiful Australian landscapes. The open fires make this a popular place to book for parties and events.
Cocktails are arranged like a restaurant menu. There are entrees, mains and desserts. As tempting as it is to skip straight to the sweet stuff, it's worth sampling a little from everywhere. There's also an impressive collection of top-quality whiskeys and beers to try. Ask for the fancy ice, they'll know what you mean. Chartreuse is also highlighted in their menu, the liqueur inspiring a little French in the experience.
As for straight up cocktail recommendations, the Butterfly Spritz was a favourite, as was the Whiskey Peach Smash.
Each of these delights is served with a smile and a little history if you ask. The staff treat you as a local, even if you're new. Everyone feels welcome with friendly conversation adding to the warm and inviting atmosphere.
Richmond was never high on my cocktail hunting list but with Maeve Fox raising the bar, I will be seen here again.
I really love reading 'weekend notes' however this review is honestly such alot of nonsence. Maev Fox is not a bad bar at all, but it is 100% a typical glossy bar for a Richmond that is no longer "gritty". I have frequented this bar a few times and really don't feel this is an accurate review.
So glad I found this place, one of my favourite places in Richmond! The staff there are always really friendly and I never feel like I have to get dressed up if I don't feel like it...definitely not "glossy" or "typical"... each to their own but I definitely feel like Maeve Fox is a breath of fresh air in Richmond to be honest.
