Thailand's Secret Mission to Conquer Strathfield
When you hear "Strathfield" you don't immediately think "Thai food" or even "Thai", rather your mind conjures up an image of delicious Korean food backed by the suburb's famous Korean culture. Yet it's all about to change...

Maenam opened its doors in January this year, making its stand in Strathfield with its classy interior that has since been bustling with foodies who know where to go for authentic Laos and Thai cuisine. Its menu offers the must-have, famous pad Thai, pad see ew as well as the more traditional Laos dishes such as nam khao - a fried rice ball salad made with fermented pork sausage, chopped peanuts, grated coconut, shallots, mint, cilantro, lime juice, fish sauce, and other ingredients. Other note-worthy dishes include a wide range of curries: red, green and yellow, with red being the hottest and yellow the mildest.

And of course, one cannot simply go into a Thai restaurant without ordering a signature salad, which Maenam definitely caters for. Trust me, you'll want to try everything that's on the menu.

Here's a glimpse of just some of the dishes on offer:

Seafood Stir Fry with vegetables in traditional Thai dressing

Deep-fried salt and pepper squid - a must-have!

Nam Khao - a very refreshing rice salad

Maenam's Fried Ice-cream (available in choc chip or vanilla)

What more can I say? This has definitely got to be one of the best Thai restaurants around Sydney - I would even venture to say, it is up there with The Holy Basil. The flavours are unique in themselves yet true to their heritage and the ambience of the restaurant really sets the mood for an enjoyable evening out with the family or friends.

Platform 8 at Breakfast point is an excellent Thai restaurant. I will have to try this one at Strathfield and see how it compares to that.
