Here's one way you can show support for local artists. Take a stroll through Blacktown as #itsourthing ">Made in Blacktown City Art Walk is Live! Discover the temporary and permanent public art takeover now through 31 July 2022 in various locations throughout the Blacktown CBD. Download the map here . Presented by Blacktown Arts and Blacktown City Council, the City Art Walk showcases the heart of the Blacktown creative scene with digital art on outdoor screens, large scale installations and street art by diverse western Sydney talent.

Featuring works by Emily Johnson, Coda Jade, Western Sydney Murals (Cameron Marbus/Paul Zoeller), Wendy Murray, Kevin Vo and Leila Frijat, Made in Blacktown reimagines how art can transform our city, making culture a part of our everyday lives.

  • #emilyjohnson ">Emily Johnson is a 28 year old Barkindi Latiilati Wakka wakka and Biri Gubb woman originally from Broken Hill and has created six larger than life-sized characters exploring body positive imaging, feminism and First Nations Identity. Find the locations of the installations via the links given for all artists involved.
  • #codejade ">Coda Jade is a young First Nations artist who was born in Windsor on Darug land. Her mob is Goreng Goreng near Bundaberg Queensland. Her work was inspired by traditional knowledge of the Bardi people of WA and by the Worora people of WA, both subjects reflected in books told by Mary Albert and Daisy Utemorrah, and both compiled by Pamela Lofts.
  • #cameronpaul ">Western Sydney Murals is a collective of artists from Western Sydney, who produce large scale murals, commissioned works and community workshops. Each artist has over a decade of experience and specialise in a variety of styles from portraits, custom lettering, landscapes and characters. Workshops done and dusted, you'll find the final piece of a collaborative mural displayed in Blacktown CBD.
  • #wendymurray ">Wendy Murray of The Poster Centre is a mobile screen-printing studio where families and young people can learn screen-printing techniques in the tradition of political poster art pioneered in Mt Druitt by the Garage Graphix. Workshops over, catch a selection of posters displayed in the CBD and check out the Garage Graphic exhibition at The Leo Kelly Blacktown Arts Centre.
  • #kevinvo ">Kevin Vo created the Blacktown City Art Map which includes a custom artwork on the reverse side of select editions. Born in Vietnam, Kevin came to Australia in 1985 as a refugee. He has studied Graphic Design at the Sydney Institute of Technology, Enmore Design Centre and is currently working in graphic design and visual arts.
  • #leilafrijat ">Leila Frijat 's The Heart of Blacktown illustration appears on the reverse side of select editions of Blacktown City Art Walk Map. Limited copies are available from The Leo Kelly Blacktown Arts Centre. A multidisciplinary designer and artist that works across graphics, illustration, interactive installations, photography, and videography, Leila has held exhibitions at many galleries and her work has been published in several publications.

  • Go ahead and enjoy large scale installations such as Travelling Colony, a hand-painted caravan inspired by Brook Andrew's Wiradjuri tradition; Graham Chalcroft's Kaleidosculpture Velocity Wheel sculpture which captures the fun, excitement and movement associated with showgrounds; a memorial to workers lost via The Wreath from Bronwyn Berman; and an 8m tall reflective light sculpture Light Wing by Skunk Control; and Dadu Bamul 9under the earth, a series of painted figures and animals designed to help visitors navigate the Warrick Lane underground carpark.

Collaborative street-art also occupies the city paths including City Shift, and It's Our Thing, Street Cycle both inspired by the hip-hop movement of western Sydney. Be sure to pencil in a break along the way at Warami Ngallawah Mittigar to enjoy water features, garden areas and art at the Village Green. Designed for art-lovers of all kinds, The Made in Blacktown City Art Walk is carefully curated to highlight people, places and things including Temporary Public art from local talent. Don't miss the chance to support local creatives just by taking a walk.
