Made in Africa , one of Brisbane's favourite African restaurants, has launched a catering service. Now you can have have delicious Ethiopian food, great Ethiopian beer and wine, as well as wonderful aromatic Ethiopian Coffee at your next business or social event.

About Made in Africa Restaurant

Made in Africa is one of several East African restaurants in Brisbane. Located at the back of the Moorooka Arcade in Beaudesert Rd in Moorooka, many locals walk past this restaurant and not realise it is there. Those that do discover it often come back bringing their friends.

The restaurant serves a range of classic Ethiopian dishes, but the most popular are the share platters. These come in variants of one, two, three and four-course meals, with the four-course meal finishing off with Ethiopian coffee.

You can also pop in for coffee and cake. The main cake that they sell is busbusa, a popular type of cake in North Africa. Other cakes and ice cream are available as well.

About Ethiopian Food

Most Australians are not familiar with Ethiopian food. Mostly it consists of wonderful slow-cooked aromatic stews that use a variety of meats, vegetables and beans. Some of the popular ones to try are kitfo (a minced beef stew), doro wot (spicy chicken and boiled egg stew) and gomen (a vegan stew of spinach, capsicum and onions). If you are ordering catering it is easy to specify vegetarian and vegan options.

Most Ethiopian food is eaten with injera bread. This is made from fermented wheat and has a lovely subtle lightly sour flavour. You use the bread to pick up the food with your hand. Forks and spoons are also available on request. Rice is also an option and is a better choice with some of the stews.

Not everything in Ethiopian food are stews. They also have a range of finger food such as lentil, vegetable or meat Sambusas. Also check out their range of traditional and international salads.

Along with the African food, Made in Africa also offers a range of drinks, including of course coffee, as well as Ethiopian beer and wine.

What is on offer

Made in Africa has recently launched their catering business . You can book a range of food options to be delivered around the area. You can also book the restaurant for functions.

While you can order off the menu it is also a good idea to talk directly with the staff at Made in Africa as they can customise your order. One time we had dinner with a large group at the restaurant itself. We talked to the owner, Tesfaye, and arranged several huge share platters that catered to both the vegetarians and meat lovers in the group.

Ethiopian Coffee Ceremony

Ethiopia is the home of coffee and has a long tradition. Their traditional coffee is has a nutty aromatic smell and is usually consumed black without sugar, though some Ethiopians add sugar if they need a little extra kick in the morning.

As part of the catering options, you can also order an Ethiopian coffee ceremony. This involves the catering staff serving the coffee to guests in the traditional Ethiopian manner.

Overall

I love Ethiopian food and if you are looking for something different to surprise and delight the guests at a function, then Ethiopian catering from Made in Africa is one great option. The way that it is served means that it is easy to try lots of different flavours. So it works well for a sit-down dinner or as finger food.

Given than Australians are becoming coffee snobs, the chance to give your guests the taste of coffee from the country that discovered it, is a must. Everyone I know who has tried Ethiopian coffee loves it.

With a 20% discount for your first order, it is well worth considering Made in Africa for your next event.
