Have some High Tea in this quirky Guildford cafe
Maddison Cottage
Artistic would be a good word to describe Maddison Cottage

Maddison Cottage is a French themed tearoom and gift shop that is bursting at the seams with charm and character. You can find this quaint little cottage on James Street in Guildford. It reminded me a lot of the Cottage Tea Rooms that I visited in Henley Brook.

Maddison Cottage
There is a lot of character in this tiny shop

Maddison Cottage or "Maddys" as it is known by some is run by a mother daughter team. It opened in 2011. Owners Jan and Claire do all their own baking and have lovingly decorated the entire place with decorative items like tea sets, soaps, vases, old posters and flowers.

The tea rooms provide for an interesting setting

The cottage is small and has a "grandma's house" feel to it. Wander from room to room and have a look at all of the gorgeous things on display.

Grab something for lunch or for afternoon tea

They are open on Mondays from 10am to 2pm and from Tuesdays to Fridays from 10am to 4pm and on Saturdays and Sundays from 10am to 5pm. They serve breakfast, morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea.

You can also choose a beverage from their large selection of teas and coffee. If you BYO champagne there is a corkage charge of $2 per person.

Maddison Cottage
This would make a fancy addition to any kitchen

When we visited Maddison Cottage it was a quiet afternoon and we were the only ones there. I ordered a hot chocolate for $4.50 and a plate of scones with fresh cream and jam for $4.50. I really liked the plate that the hot chocolate came out on. It had roses on it. It was a nice touch. I like places that serve you things on nice plates. I had lunch at a place the other week that served me food on a plain Ikea plate that had been taped together with a bit of sticky tape on the back. I was not impressed. My scone was piping hot and dusted with icing sugar. It was resting on a blue plate and came with a serving of cream and jam. The scone was fluffy and warm and very nice with the cream and the jam. I would gladly visit again.

Don't you just love the smell of freshly baked scones?
