Madame K – you are more than OK!

Alright, so I don't actually know who Madame K is, but I am talking about the new restaurant that seemed to simply appear one day on Brunswick Street, Fitzroy.

Being around Smith or Brunswick Street, it has caught many a vegetarian or vegan en route to one of the other many veggie friendly restaurants on this strip. A funny thing happened on the way to Las Vegan …

When we were there on a Tuesday night, they were almost full, and with a table celebrating someone's birthday. It is that kind of place, nice mood lighting with attention to smaller details and décor to make this place inviting and relaxing.

The menu is extensive, with vegan and gluten free items clearly marked. It is licensed as well. Service is warm and helpful, I would even say gentle if you know what I mean. Noise levels are good, you can hear each other at the table (one of my personal gripes about some places).

The menu is divided into sections and includes
• About six types of salad (such as gado gado),
• Soups such as Thom Kha Musketeers - Thai style soup with coconut milk, fresh herbs, mushroom, baby corn and tofu topped with spring onion.
• Entrees such as miso eggplant Japanese style grilled eggplant with sweet Miso sauce and sesame seeds
• Mains such as Prik khing - stir-fried crispy tofu with red curry paste, beans capsicum and chili served with jasmine or brown rice
• Curry for example Indian butter curry with chickpeas in butter tomato sauce blended with Indian spices served with jasmine or brown rice.
• Noodles such as laksa, pad thai and soba style
• Desserts such as banana tempura, with dairy optional in most desserts.
• As well as side dishes

Presentation of the food was beautiful. The food itself was amazing. Delicate flavours interwoven, obvious Asian influences but with a twist.

I particularly loved the Madam K's Pancake - slicked mock roasted duck with cucumbers, shallots and fresh coriander wrapped in thin pancake and drizzled with sauce. It was so fresh and divine.

You can order online (or phone) for delivery or have take away.
