I was recently invited to attend a waff exercise class at Madam Waff and I was pleasantly surprised by the extraordinary waff cushion and methods. I am a regular pilates participant and was keen to experience and understand waff methods since it's very popular in France and other countries.

The class provides all participants a big and a mini waff cushion for the exercises. The Waff cushions looks like a giant air-inflated whoopee cushion. The exercises are simple and rhythmic and involve balancing the body on the cushion along with external movements. The initial exercises involved standing on the big Waff cushion and gentle walking and reaching movements requiring oneself to balance themselves on the cushion while simultaneously performing the exercise routine. While the movements are not very big, when you combine it with balancing the body on the cushion it engages a number of muscles of the body and activates the core for stability.

The mini waff cushion while small in stature is a great tool too. Exercises on the mini waff require one self to balance one leg on it while performing the movement or other exercises where you rest the back or body on the cushion. My biggest challenge initially was getting myself to balance my body on the cushion, as I began gaining confidence in that I was able to perform the exercise while engaging all parts of the body.

The ergonomically designed Waff cushion is intended to promote values such as wellbeing, relaxation, and caring for your body. Waff is suited for all ages, body types and shapes. The benefits are not just physical and mental but also emotional. The class ends with a 5 minute relaxation of the body on the waff cushion that relaxes the muscles and mind.

Waff cushion and methods are used widely by sporting professionals and in medical environments to help develop the strength in muscles. Anne-Sophie Chapoton, has brought Waff to Australia and is the exclusive distributor of the products/brand Waff in Australia/NZ and also runs Waff classes under the entity Madamwaff . Waff classes are 45 minute classes currently held in Balmain (Balmain Sailing club) and Pyrmont (Metcalfe park). Refer to their website for class timings.
