In the third Madagascar installment, we meet up with Alex the lion (Ben Stiller), Marty the zebra (Chris Rock), Gloria the hippo (Jada Pinkett Smith) and Melman the giraffe (David Schwimmer).
The team is still desperate to get back to their zoo home to New York and, when an adventure takes them to Europe, they hide out with a travelling circus to evade authorities.
Surprisingly, Alex ends up inspiring the circus troop to revive their worn out routine into a modern spectacular. (Not bad for a lion from captivity who's bluffing his way as a circus pro). And Marty, well
he gets inspired by the costumes (
'Polka dot, polka dot, Afro circus' - you've seen that bit in the trailer).

Madagascar 3
has romance and action plus a great soundtrack to boot (Katy Perry's Firework%% is one of the anthems), lots of bright colours and a really well thought out plot.
Sacha Baron Cohen is great, reviving the character of Julien the lemur. He's one of the funniest characters and in one of the film's romances - with a circus bear. But for me, Chris Rock as Marty was the standout. Great lines and great timing.
For parents there are lots of little details and side jokes that will keep you entertained in this one. For the kids, there are lots of colours, laughs and fun. (Although perhaps not for really young kids because my four year old kept asking me to clarify the plot.)
I'm tipping primary school aged kids will LOVE this film. And their parents will be glad they stayed too.
