While Perth boasts a dizzying array of markets, one that is truly special manifests in the heart of Fremantle each week from Wednesday to Sunday.

Named after one of the wackiest and most popular characters of Lewis Caroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, the Mad Hatter Market is held at Kings Square, next to the Fremantle Town Hall, and features an eclectic mixture of stalls purveying arts and crafts, fresh produce and all sorts of food from around the world. With live entertainment and miscellaneous family-friendly amusements, it's become a popular spot to dally, attracting fans from the Freo area and far beyond.

Early next month the market will be amping up the action with the launch of its first , an event that is planned to be held in future on a monthly basis. Taking place Saturday October the 5th, it will be sponsored by Pirate 88FM and feature a line-up of stalls and entertainment that will be sure to keep the whole family in good spirits.

[ADVERT]As well as its regular market stalls, there will be plenty of exciting fair-time amusements for visitors, old and young, including an animal farm, bouncy castle, mini train, balloon lady, creative activities, face-painting and a treasure hunt. Live entertainment will include some of our talented local buskers and stage performances by various school and community groups.

A popular feature of the Fun Fair will be the chance to dress up as your favourite Alice in Wonderland character or pirate. If you feel too shy to do so or you don't know what to wear, not to worry: there will be plenty of entertainment observing the colourful outfits of those who do. However, everyone who does summon the courage to come in fancy dress will receive a prize.

In a nutshell, the promises to be a terrific outing that the whole family will love. Combining the excitement of fair-time with the avant-garde, off-beat sense of humour that Freo is so famous for, this event is one that you, and your kids, definitely won't want to miss.
