View the most famous fireworks display in the world on Wednesday, July 4th at 9pm EST. The Macy's Fireworks displays started on the Hudson River in 1958. This year's theme is " Ignite the Night " where viewers will see over 40,000 fireworks synchronized to popular songs in a 26 minute-span. According to Macy's, nearly 1,500 firework shells will explode per minute. Onlookers will see fireworks set up between 18th and 43rd streets, nearly 2 miles of sky.

For the best view, sit on the northbound lanes of the West Side Highway and 12th avenue between 20th and 59th streets. Pedestrian access can be found at several street as well including: 24th, 26th-30th, 34th, 40th-44th, 47th-52 and lastly, 54th-57th. Arrive early, no later then 5 pm and with chairs or a blanket to spread out.

Many New Yorkers suggest sitting south of 42nd street to see the best views near the U.S.S. Intrepid around 45th street. Other great viewing spots include: Pier 54 & 84 and Dewitt Clinton Park.

Parking will not be available, so public transportation will run extra service during the day of the fireworks.
