You will be mortified if you miss Mac's at Mortlake
There are country pubs and there are country pubs, and Mac's is a country pub and a good one.

Old hotel
Mac's Hotel original building.

The original building was built in 1858 with additions in 1910. Internally it has been modernised, but still has old world charm.

Very old.

We were in a group of four and this was our second visit in two months because our first visit was so enjoyable.

Our group entering.

The menu between visits had changed slightly with some new choices, but still retaining the old favourites, including award winning parmas.

Drinks bar
Ordering from the well-stocked bar with a friendly chat.

Two of our group ordered the seafood platter which came with chips and salad. Apart from the usual seafood platter ingredients, smoked salmon was included, a tasty surprise to them.

The seafood was seen and eaten.

The generous sized chicken kiev came with chips and salad.

chicken Kiev
The tasty chicken Kiev.

My choice was an Asian beef vegetable stir fry on a base of boiled rice. It was as good as any stir fry I had eaten at any Chinese restaurant.

Beef stir-fry.
The delicious stir-fry served in a pyramid form.

Despite the 42 seat bistro being almost full, the time from ordering to eating was a pleasant interval allowing good conversation and a few sips of our drinks. The service was excellent from the very friendly staff, all good for a friendly chat.

bistro interior
Widley spaced tables makes for an enjoyable meal.

Mortlake is in Victoria's Western District, 234 kms west of Melbourne, 50 kms from Warrnambool and 25 kms from Terang, where we were staying, passing about four other pubs to get to it.

A nice touch on every table.

Mac's Mortlake Hotel also provides accommodation for weary travellers.

If you are within a cooee, no several cooees, of this pub, head for it as you won't be disappointed or hungry when you leave.
