The festival began from humble beginnings and grew each year bringing people not only from Footscray and Melbourne, but from all over Victoria and other states of different ages and backgrounds. More than 15,000 people attended the festival in 2017.

The festival showcases a wide diversity of traditional Macedonian cuisine of food dating back thousands of years. Cooking traditions and recipes that have been passed down through the generations and now brought to your palate for purchase. Traditional Macedonian cuisine has both sweet and savoury options, so you will have plenty of choice on the day of the festival.
Other attractions at the festival will include traditional Macedonian folk dancing of which costumes and very colourful and vibrant, singing folk songs and children's rides. This is a family festival where young, old and different cultures can get together to celebrate as one.
Throughout history and in the present day, Macedonia has been a crossroad for traders and conquerors each leaving a distinctive culture mark on the country. Alexander The Great was King of Macedonia from 353-323 BC and at the time of his reign, Macedonia was the most powerful state in the world.
