Shakespeare's darkest comedy being performed in the inspiring, lush grounds of the Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne - what a treat for all fans of the bard as well as those would-be Shakespeare lovers! Audiences are close to the action as the story of Macbeth unfolds to reveal the evil that comes from political machinations and personal ambition.
Shadows, candlelight, darkness all contribute to the almost supernatural environment in which this dark play is performed.
Macbeth is the tale of one man's ill-fated journey. After receiving a prophecy from a trio of witches that one day he will become King of Scotland, the heroic General is consumed by ambition and spurred into action by his power-hungry wife. Macbeth fulfils the forecast by killing the King and then taking the throne. However, wracked with guilt and paranoia both he and his murderous wife's lives slowly unravel, leaving them to suffer their fate. What's done cannot be undone…" The Australian Shakespeare Company
The play has Nathaniel Dean (from Ridley Scott's Alien) starring as Macbeth and the much-lauded Alison Whyte as the infamous Lady Macbeth.
