I am an academic and writer living in Melbourne. I love to travel and I also love writing about all the things Melbourne, regional Victoria and other parts of Australia have to offer.
Event: -
Ambition at its highest

Shakespeare's darkest comedy being performed in the inspiring, lush grounds of the Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne - what a treat for all fans of the bard as well as those would-be Shakespeare lovers! Audiences are close to the action as the story of Macbeth unfolds to reveal the evil that comes from political machinations and personal ambition.

Shadows, candlelight, darkness all contribute to the almost supernatural environment in which this dark play is performed.

Macbeth is the tale of one man's ill-fated journey. After receiving a prophecy from a trio of witches that one day he will become King of Scotland, the heroic General is consumed by ambition and spurred into action by his power-hungry wife. Macbeth fulfils the forecast by killing the King and then taking the throne. However, wracked with guilt and paranoia both he and his murderous wife's lives slowly unravel, leaving them to suffer their fate. What's done cannot be undone…"
The Australian Shakespeare Company

The play has Nathaniel Dean (from Ridley Scott's Alien) starring as Macbeth and the much-lauded Alison Whyte as the infamous Lady Macbeth.

Even if you have seen Macbeth before, seeing it at the Royal Botanic Gardens will add another dimension to the performance of this timeless, dark play. So bring your friends and family for this unique and personal experience of one of Shakespeare's most famous plays.

You can bring your own picnic hamper (including alcohol) or you can order food online beforehand or on the night. You can also hire chairs ($5) on site. Please be aware the performances are outdoors and there is no cover so make sure you are prepared for the sometimes fickle Melbourne weather.

There will be 46 performances starting on December 21st, 2018 until February 23rd, 2019.
