Tucked away in Wentworthville is a gorgeous park called Lytton St Reserve. This reserve is only a few streets away from the Wentworthville mall, train station and street businesses yet, it is one of the most peaceful parks I have been in.



It really is the perfect place to have a lovely walk around and enjoy nature all around you. There are trees that are magnificent and create a breathtaking atmosphere above you. The area is filled with different types of birds. There are two paths to walk on so I did a circle so I could see it all from both paths. There is a bridge to walk over, a public toilet, a basketball area, picnic tables, BBQs and even a gorgeous community garden.



There are three different play equipments in the park each totally different to the other. Two are located right next to each other and close to some picnic tables and the other play equipment is up the other end of the park. Go ahead and try them all, but personally the one at the other end of the path does not look like much.



I felt an instant calmness wash over me as I walked under the shade of the trees and smiled and nodded to others who were walking there also. Most of them were in exercise clothes and walking really fast. They probably have seen this park a million times but I wanted to go slowly and enjoy looking at everything and feeling that relaxing feeling that the park creates.



The largest of the play equipment has many features, lots of things to climb up, over and under, it actually appears quite challenging perhaps perfect for school aged kids. It's got some swings, a flying fox and the two slides look a good length and have some waves in them. The rickety bridge is pretty high as is the balance beam. Great for the kids to play on over the school holidays particularly if you are looking to wear them out a bit. Four children can ride together on a rocking thing next to it.



Behind the main equipment is another play set. I guess this one would be better for toddlers to preschoolers to try. It's more closed in and safer and the slide is smaller than the other one. The third play equipment further down the path closer to the basketball ring is really just a big long slide with climbing things around it.



This park is great for everyone you could walk alone or ride your bike alone along the wide paths and really take the time to look around, to unwind and relax. You could run alone here, it's quiet so you could sit under the shade of a big beautiful tree and listen to music, meditate or read. I could really picture people doing yoga here.



Couples could spend a weekend afternoon walking through the paths, over the bridge, maybe bring something to eat at the picnic tables, have a look at the community garden. Families could walk, ride bikes, stop for lunch, play on 3 different play equipments, then go home for a sleep as that would be a workout! The paths are really wide so you are not constantly apologising to people to get around them and you can easily fit a bike, scooter or pram.

The downside of the park is that a massive drain opening runs down the middle of the park with a huge fence around it. Not nice to look at but it doesn't take away the nice atmosphere of the park. In fact once you really stop to take in the walkways, trees and birds you completely forget all about it.



If you know the area around here you will know that apartment blocks are everywhere. You can see kids toys on little balconies all around you. One day I was there I saw about 12 school aged kids playing soccer there. They were having the best time, they were laughing, giving each other turns and I remember thinking it is so great that even though they don't have backyards they can all meet up and play at this park. It was so nice to hear their laughter.

Now for the best part not only can the people without backyards bring their children here to play, they can also even garden here. Located close to Fallagar rd end of the park is Wentworthville community gardens.



This is definitely worth a look and what a fantastic idea. People without gardens can have their own garden plot here. There is a green house, a water tank and the gardens look fantastic such beautiful colours that I gasped when I saw it. There is a very welcoming sign out the front of it and even though it was closed when I went and it has a fence around it you can see right through the fence and running over the fence beautiful plants of all different varieties.



There is a covered section in there that has places to sit and pot plants, water them, prune them etc it even has BBQs in there and a compost. The garden is open at certain times on a Wednesday afternoon and on the weekend so that the owners of each plot can come and look after their plants. This must be a great place for locals to meet up with each other and make friends with neighbours. At this year's Easter show they won first prize for their produce, so it really is worth a look. Their next opening day is 12th October, 2013 between 10am- 2pm. The Holroyd Community Garden was officially opened on Saturday 29 March 2008 by the Mayor of Holroyd City Council, Dr John Brodie.



This park is very peaceful and a lovely place to go for a walk.
