Event:
Prepare your property
Bushfire season is upon us and even though this year we seem to be having a much easier season than the last, bushfire risk is something for which we should all make sure we are prepared.

Once a bushfire is approaching, it is too late to start thinking about what you need to do, so regardless of where you live, along with ensuring you have completed your 5 Minute Bushfire Plan, you need to have prepared your property.

The South Australian Country Fire Service has substantial advice on its website on how to prepare.

To assist your preparation, the City of Mitcham is hosting free opportunities this summer for Mitcham residents to drop off green waste at the Lynton Green Organics Drop Off Facility located at the end of Beagle Terrace, Lynton. The compound is shared with the State Emergency Service.

The facility is generally open from 9 am to 3 pm on the first, third and fifth Saturday of each month (excluding public holidays), as well as on select Mondays throughout bushfire season. Fees apply for disposal except on advertised free drop off days. Please see the website for fees if you are not dropping off during a free drop off day.

The facility will accept grass clippings, leaves, plant and tree prunings and tree branches no larger than 200 mm. They will not accept declared weeds, dirt and soil, treated or painted timber, medium-density fibreboard (MDF), building materials, food scraps, paper and cardboard, plastic, hard waste items, asbestos or chemicals. Loads contaminated with these items will be refused.

As the facility is located in a higher fire risk area, if the SA Country Fire Service declares an extreme or catastrophic fire danger day for the Mount Lofty Ranges Fire District, the facility will be closed. Please visit the City of Mitcham or SA Country Fire Service websites before you visit.

You will need to bring proof of residency within the City of Mitcham such as your drivers license or rates notice.
