Going the extra distance quite often pays off handsomely. My friends and I wanted to share a small celebration and we had booked into a hotel we'd only heard about but never visited before. It meant driving a little further from our homes in the south-east of Melbourne near the foot of the Dandenongs, but we were up for the experience. The description of South-East here in Melbourne takes in a great many suburbs that are relatively new and the area continues to grow.
Lynbrook Hotel, Lynbrook
At 550 South Gippsland Highway in Lynbrook, the Lynbrook Hotel has a striking look about its exterior. Sharp architectural lines indicate a modern approach. Would it be as good inside? We'd heard that the bistro will seat anything up to 300 people, and we were a little concerned at the possible noise level.
A couple of our friends have even further to travel and so while we waited in the lounge, we sat in comfort and leafed through a couple of books.
Relax while waiting for friends
The Lynbrook Hotel boasts a bistro that offers international soup, roast carvery, roasted and steamed seasonable vegetables, seafoods, salad bar, pastas, wood fired pizzas, Asian inspired cuisine, Indian curry dishes, kids varieties and a dessert buffet bar. It's open 7 days a week for lunch and dinner.
It's been a long while between good curries, but I can assure you that the curry selections at this bistro were so good that we went back for seconds.
Not withstanding the fact that we also enjoyed a light salad with prawns as well.
What we were mainly saving ourselves for was to experience some of their sweets. Too many to describe, too many to choose from. Self saucing puddings, icecreams, creamy desserts, pavlovas, and slices. The buffet selection of sweets were to clamour for. In fact it seemed that people were queuing for most of the meals throughout the time we were there.
The table seatings are roomy and we found the entire experience most pleasurable. Children are always welcome at the Lynbrook and there is a private Kids Playground specially for them to have fun away from their grownups. Thursday nights are Kids Nights when there is free face painting. Why do the kids have all the fun?
