Prepare for a sweetness overload with adorable desserts and macarons in every colour of the rainbow at LuxBite. The South Yarra dessert cafe is famed for their selection of macarons in exotic flavours such as peanut butter and jelly, ribena lemonade and bamboo oolong tea.
When you go to LuxBite, you want to eat in for the full experience. Rather than having seperate tables in the style of most eateries, they have one huge table in the centre of the store. While you order at the counter, there is some table service and they do bring your food out to you. The decor is adorable; from the birds' nest light fitting, to the flowers adorning the tables, to the cupcake cases filled with salt in lieu of salt shakers. Much of the appeal of their treats comes from their beautiful presentation- the whole store and everything in it is unbearably cute.
One thing you'll notice about LuxBite is that people are constantly taking photographs. As you ponder the desserts on display, you can guarantee there'll be someone next to you whipping out their phone camera. When patrons receive their food, you hear a shutter sound before you hear a fork hitting their plate.
I ordered a supersized love- it was like a giant macaron, filled with chocolate and hazelnuts. While it seems small for a dessert that costs $8, it was so intensely chocolatey that it would go to waste if it was any bigger. While it wasn't the cutest of their desserts, it was certainly a taste sensation.
The supersized love was delicious- highly recommended.
An outing to Luxbite doesn't come cheap. I went with a group of five, with the bill coming to about $75. Macarons are $11 for a selection of four- and you'll have a hard time narrowing down your choice to just a few.
LuxBite is one of those thoughtful places that provides WiFi for customers- so if you feel like working hard while rewarding yourself with desserts, bring your laptop along with you.
