We choose to dine here last week to celebrate my birthday and we were happy with the whole French dining experience. We particularly enjoyed the experience, the lovely food and ambience, but unfortunately due to the time of the year, missed the sunset whilst dining due to timing.
We chose from the Dinner by Sunset menu, giving us the lovely choice of 3 courses for $58 per person. They have a variety of menus to choose from, including the 5-course degustation tasting menu for $98 and $148 with matching wines, Autumn menu, Vegetarian menu and Lobster Celebration menu.
The head chef, Romain Bapst, changes the menu seasonally and offers an Alsatian twist due to his Strasbourgeois heritage. Either way, the food is delicately presented, balanced and tastes delicious with distinct French flair.
Our 3 course dinner started with a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon from South Australia with a Baguette and truffle butter.
Our waiter was very friendly and entertaining and was attentive to our needs, answering our questions about the menu and wine.
I was gifted a free glass of red wine to enjoy to help celebrate my birthday. What a treat.
He informed us that during the summer months, the sunset and views are spectacular. This time of the year, the sun sets earlier than regular dinner time, so all you see is the lights looking out towards Mt Cootha. Either way, the ambience is very nice. We dined on a Tuesday night and the restaurant was quite busy. I would suggest that reservation would be needed for the weekend and other times to ensure a table. Parking is out front or they do have extra parking behind the building.
They also apparently offer BYO wines on Tuesday nights - we only found out after we dined but good to know for next time. So if you are looking for a fine dining experience with a French flair, then maybe a night at Lutece Bistro and WIne Bar might just be a good choice for you, as it was for us.
