Once upon a time the term 'tattoo parlour' conjured images of a grungy backroom filled with angry biker types and cigarette smoke. But now, tattoos are socially acceptable. Some might even call them art.

That's certainly the case at Lust for Life . This Fortitude Valley tattoo parlour has four tattoo artists pumping out original work for clients. Work is done by appointment only, and customers can work with the artist to bring their vision to life. The parlour is open seven days a week from 11.00am until 6.00pm.

If that's not arty enough for you, check out their onsite art gallery. The gallery aims to showcase works by local artist (see here for information about artists submissions). Their inaugural exhibition is by Archie Moore, and is a multi-media exploration of the Aboriginal experience in Australia.

And don't you just hate it when you're getting tattooed and start craving a latte? We'll they've thought of that too. Lust for Life espresso bar serves up coffee brewed from beans from Sumatra and Papua New Guinea.

Disclaimer: choosing a tattoo provider is a big decision that should not be made lightly. Having said that, Lust for Life is a pretty funky and unusual establishment that is at least worth a look.
