The Lunch Room Espresso Bar on Grenfell St, has all of the usual coffees and single origin coffee available as well. What singled this place out for me was there was no elitism when discussing the coffee; when I asked about the single origin (not really being an aficionado), the barista at the time spoke plainly and not condescendingly: they didn't have any single origin at the time for me to try, but he assured me that the house blend was a really good coffee.

As I remember, the day was reasonably warm, so I didn't feel like a creamy, milky coffee. I did feel like a coffee of some sort, however. I remembered that some places are doing a new coffee on ice - not to be confused with an iced coffee, which is never served correctly in Australia, having travelled extensively enough here to know. An iced coffee is actually an espresso served over ice with coffee gelati only in it, no milk, no cream. So it's far more refreshing than what's served here as an iced coffee. The barista, knew what I was talking about and then went on to make one for me, while I, along with my Uni coffee drinking partner in tow, found a seat.

I like the layout of The Lunchroom, as it has this sort of balcony area, up a couple of steps, which looks down onto the sandwich making area, where a veritable production line of sandwich makers perform with finesse, producing lunchtime offerings, of which I'm sure customers would be most happy to partake. They were busy, but the atmosphere was not one of drudgery, as one would imagine in such a setup, however, there seemed to be a good deal of camaraderie going on which was fun.

We had already eaten across the road, when those kiosks were there for bike SA - Churroz and the Haloumi wrap stand, both so good, too, so we didn't eat at The Lunchroom.

The coffees arrived and mine was exactly what was called for on a warm day! I got my hit of coffee; stronger, as I requested, without being asked if I wanted a double shot. I want to taste coffee, not Farmers Union iced coffee served up as cappuccinos.

This coffee on ice was ohmygod good, not OMG, but an ahh coffee, which literally put a smile on my face. My coffee drinking partner was happy as well; think it was a caffee latte.

The Lunchroom, like Argo on the Parade , Argo on the Square (Victoria Square), Blefari (also on the square) and a number of others, uses Veneziano coffee. At Blefari, next to the Treasury building on Victoria Square, you can actually purchase their daily blend of it. It is very good coffee. In fact, it's one of the best I've had, to date, alongside of Vittoria Oro, which is served at Cafe Palazzo on The Parade. Veneziano, probably comes out on top over the Oro, if I really think about it, but the Oro is definitely a good mid-week coffee drink, for the layman who enjoys his coffee.

I think this coffee on ice was just an espresso on ice (I stand corrected), but it was really nice and eons away from that sweet, milky concoction mostly served up as an iced coffee. It is just so not refreshing on a hot day.

I like The Lunchroom, which being called The Lunchroom, closes before 4pm weekdays; I know, because I wanted a coffee there one day after this time. Such a shame. It's right next to a lot of bus stops and takeaway coffees are so good to take on the bus for mulling over the trip home.

My only problem with The Lunchroom, was that someone came along and took my coffee away too soon. I was enjoying it and making it last; it was, after all, an ice coffee, so I didn't have to worry about it getting cold.
