Saturday was date day, and I was taking my partner to lunch at Fort Dennison on Sydney Harbour. As part of the Crave Sydney festival, they have a special 100 mile lunch menu offering a two-course lunch based on produce from areas in close proximity to Sydney, complemented by wines from these regions as well.

You can catch the ferry from Jetty 6 at Circular Quay. It costs $20 each return, which also includes the entry fee to the Island. The ferry ride takes 10 minutes.

Lunch is $49.50 which includes 2 courses and one glass of wine each. To start, I had the poached squid insalata and my partner had the roasted beetroots. We both had Sydney Harbour flathead for our main, as the other option of baby goat didn't take our fancy.

Overall the food was nice, but won't blow your mind. The service was excellent, and the setting was perfect. Extra glasses of wine were $9.50 and we did actually have the dessert as well which was a beautiful pannacotta. The Island is tiny and you can spend some time while there checking out the little museum and having a bit of a nosy around. Quaint, quiet, romantic and a thoroughly beautiful spot for a date - highly recommended.

P.S. If you don't want to order from the special set menu then you don't have to. Booking in advance recommended. Other big plus – everything on the set menu was gluten free, so I was pretty happy with that.
