Everyday when I'm driving to work and back, I pass a huge advertising sign for Hogs Breath Cafe's $9.90 lunch offer. Every time I pass by, I think, sounds good - I'll have to try at the weekend. Today after doing the weekly shop and having no particular urge to cook, we decided to go to our local Hogs Breath Cafe and try it out. I have to say that we were glad we did.
The first impression one gains from entering a Hogs Breath Cafe is that the staff are friendly and professional. These people know what they're doing. You are quickly and efficiently found a table. The staff then quickly hand you a menu and take your order. There is no waiting around, trying in vain to gain the attention of a member of staff for what seems hours on end. As efficiently as an order is taken, the drinks, starter and main courses appear. This may all sound cold and clinical service, but this is by no means true - the staff are extremely friendly and more than happy to spend time answering questions or discussing the menu and day to day pleasantries.
For starters, we ordered the fried squid - this was extremely well cooked with no toughness. The dipping sauces are lovely and tasty! Next came our $9.90 meals. I ordered the cajun beef ranch salad. Now I'm not a great fan of salads, but again the dressing saved the day for me and I had no problems finishing the plate. Indeed, I would probably order the same thing again next time we visit. My wife really enjoyed her meal of crispy chicken caesar wrap.
General comments: the restaurant was extremely clean and well presented, the menus were professionally made and the descriptions and pictures of the food actually looked like the food served. The atmosphere of the restaurant makes it a convivial place to dine and the restaurant is obviously family friendly, with a menu and range eating areas to suit most tastes or requirements.
