I mix my chilli and chocolate while on the Gold Coast
In the past I have not been a huge fan of what I would call "canned" Mexican cuisine. I have long suspected that some of the larger Mexican franchises bring in their sauces etc in pre-made, and very little is freshly prepared on site. Call me fussy but for me, if I wanted processed preservative laden fare, I would stay home and open a jar of 'Chicken Tonight'.

This is NOT the case with The Aztec on Broadbeach. Immediately as you enter the restaurant with its brightly coloured décor you feel like you are in for a cultural treat.

The service was exceptional. The waiter, who we think may also be the proprietor, had an eye for detail, and was very attentive, relaxed and friendly.

If you go at lunch like we did, the entire menu is half price - extremely good value in my opinion. We have guests arriving soon and we will be taking them there when we show the Gold Coast city sights. We had an entrée and main to share and half a litre of Margarita for forty dollars, which proves that you can get quality and cheap in the one sitting. I highly recommend that you try something a bit out of your comfort zone when you eat there.

Yes the nachos was good but why not try something different? Like the #9 Mole Pablano: half a chicken baked and covered in a chilli, chocolate sauce. It was delicious, not too sweet as you might expect. The chocolate seems to add richness and flavour.

The menu states: "No chips, no garlic bread, no pizza, no pasta, only authentic mexican cusine served here." This statement I can confirm is true and if you are feeling in the mood for some festive, fun food in a central broad beach location in the vibrant Victoria mall then "The Aztec" will not disappoint.
