Come for the food and stay for the fireworks

The Lunar New Year Rooftop Party will be lots of fun for the whole family. Sunnybank's New Year Festival celebrations finish with a bang, with a rooftop party and fireworks spectacle. Enjoy the Asian culture of the pop-up laneway with lantern making (the red and gold symbolise luck and prosperity), the ancient art of brush-calligraphy workshops, beautiful and elegant tea ceremonies, percussion workshops and much, much more.

Enjoy Live Music (May Cross)

There's a whole program of live entertainment and the highlights include a traditional lion dance, live music, cultural dancers and K-pop performances from Korea. Plus there will be games and activities for all ages in the Family Game Zone. As the sun sets, stay for the grand finale - a FREE spectacular fireworks display which will light up the summer night sky and leave you breathless.

Try Authentic Asian Food (May Cross)

Sunnybank and surrounding suburbs are justifiably proud of their authentic Asian cuisine. Purchase some dinner or snacks from one of the many restaurants, food trucks and stalls. And there is much more than the ever-popular Chinese food. Will you choose Thai (my favourite), delish Japanese (try fresh sushi), Vietnamese, Korean or one of the other Asian foods featured? Will you go for your favourite or try something entirely new? So many choices in one place.

Don't Miss the Lion Dancers (May Cross)

Lion and Dragon Dances
Both lion and dragon dances have been performed in China for over a thousand years, even though neither dragons nor lions existed in ancient China. They have become important symbols of good luck and prosperity and are performed at Lunar New Year and other cultural events. What's the difference between the lion dance and the dragon dance? Although they are sometimes confused, it's easy to tell the difference. The fierce dragon dance with its long serpentine tail is performed by many dancers; whereas the playful lion dance is only two acrobatic dancers. Simple.
