The Lunar New Year Lantern Festival on Sunday 17 February 2019 from 4-9pm is going to bring more than a burst of colour into William St, Northbridge. The celebration comes with some banging and clanging of instruments during the Lion Dance; the lion being a symbol of power, wisdom and superiority. It's a dance usually saved for big occasions to bring good fortune and chase away evil spirits. Plus it adds to the festive atmosphere along William Street, as you take a stroll at dusk to view the beautiful red lanterns.

The festival will run from Roe to Brisbane street, featuring the lion dancers, kid's activities and roving entertainment in the event zone between Newcastle and Monger Street. The red lanterns will actually be on display from Thursday 14 February. Does the colour red and the date (14 Feb) jog any memories for you? Perhaps it can be incorporated into your date night with that someone special.

As you enjoy the festivities, see if you can spot the Year of the Pig decorations, which identifies participating William Street retailers. This free community event is presented by the City of Vincent, the City of Perth and Northbridge Common.
