At the heart of the CBD, Word Square is the meeting point of global cultures and experiences. Always engaging, always switched on, they're cementing that reputation by featuring The Ratrobats for the Lunar New Yearto celebrate the Year of the Rat. Following the success of the Three (not so) Little Pigs for LNY 2019, expect to see a troupe of 8 larger-than-life Rats showing off their acrobatic skills in an installation inspired by the ancient tradition of Chinese acrobats and performers.
From Mon 13 Jan to Sun 16 Feb 2020, eight 2.5mt high rat sculptures will be on display at World Square, 644 George St, Sydney during Lunar New Year and what a sight they'll be to see; and perfect for photo opportunities. The Master Rat will welcome visitors to World Square while the other Performing Rats will scatter through The Square doing what Acrobatic Rats do!
Find them performing a handstand, balancing on pinwheels, juggling on a unicycle and even suspended high above The Square. There's a special Giant Rat balancing on a large chair to interact with you for that perfect selfie moment. Best of all, the cheeky Ratrobats come to life in Augmented Reality on the interactive live screen to connect with you, so watch out - and let the fun begin! You can become a Ratrobat on the interactive big screen from 31 Jan to 16 Feb from midday to 10pm daily.
World Square will also host the renownedJin Wu Koon, believed to bring good luck and prosperity as they perform the traditional Plucking of the Greens on Friday 24 January and the traditional Lion Dance on Poles on Sat 25 January 2020. Takes a lot of skill and a balancing act to perform a lion dance aloft on poles. During the plucking of the greens the lion dance troupe will visit every business and literally pluck each green lettuce for instance, hung or placed and pick up the reward of the red envelope given. Traditionally, all types of vegetables and fruit are used with each placed in a way that challenges the lion dance performers with a level of difficulty to retrieve it, hence the reward. It's all happening at World Square so be there at The Square for some interactive fun.
