Welcome to all newcomers to the Sunshine State
The LUMINOUS Lantern Parade is Queensland's way to say "Welcome" to our newest Queenslanders during Queensland week. This colourful parade, ceremony and concert at South Bank was attended by 12,000 people last year.

The event kicks off at 5:30 pm with a lantern parade through South Bank that ends at the Cultural Forecourt for a concert. Check out MDA website for more details as they are announced.

This event is an important part of Brisbane's multi-cultural calendar. Queensland is a rapidly growing state and as more international newcomers come here over Sydney and Melbourne, Brisbane is becoming a true international city.

One of the most important groups being welcomed in this event are refugees, many of whom are happy to express their gratitude in return for the warm welcome most Queenslanders extend to them as well as share their culture with locals.

You are right. There is a company that creates these and displays them at events around South East Queensland. They have many other great lanterns as well.
