Immerse yourself in Chinese art, culture and history

According to the Chinese Zodiac, 2023 is the Year of the Water Rabbit (22 January 2023 9 February 2024), symbolising prosperity, wealth and happiness.

Melbourne's Chinatown will be holding a street festival on 22 January to celebrate Chinese New Year. Enjoy delicious authentic Chinese food, watch the Millennium Dragon Parade and more.

While you are there, get to learn more about this special occasion and Chinese culture by visiting The Lucky Rabbit exhibition at the Australian Chinese Museum in Melbourne's CBD.

Get ready for a stunning visual feast, an exhibition that will be immersive and interactive and reveals the stories and history behind this significant cultural festival. The festival represents one that is filled with mythology, symbolism, superstition, taboo, family traditions, ritual, celebration and hope for the future.

The series of artworks is curated by guest artist and textile designer Chris Chun.

Depicting each of the Chinese Zodiac animals, the artworks feature his signature style of combining Asian and Western motifs, reflecting his own Australian Chinese heritage.

He's a 2nd generation Australian (Melbourne) born Chinese and has worked in the UK, Europe and Asia. His artworks have been licensed worldwide.
