Friday morning my hubby took me out for breakfast. If you haven't noticed - this is our thing. We don't do a lot of date night dinners, but our life is full of love and laughs shared over weekend breakfasts. He's a coffee lover, and I'm a tea addict. Finding a place that caters for both of us is difficult. So when he told me on Friday morning that we were getting up early, before work to try this new cafe, I was expecting a good coffee place (meaning good coffee and bleh everything else).
Lucky for me I was wrong.
Open your pinterest account. Go on. Do it now. Now search for cafes. Then piece together all the best elements from all the best photos, and here you have The lucky Penny cafe.
With leather straps holding magazines onto light wooden beams on white wash walls, it's a perfect modern mixture of minimalistic style and hipster goodness without seeming exclusive or pretentious.

Of course if you're going to a cafe you want to know about the food right? MY GOD it's good. We both had the Breakfast of Champions with avocado instead of beans. For a price just shy of $20 this is beyond value for money. 2 eggs, 2 pieces of toast, 3 delicious herbed meatballs, a thick piece of smokey bacon, delicious rosemary mushrooms and chorizo beans, I'll bet my lucky penny that you won't be able to finish the meal - but you'll try, as hard as you can, simply because it's so good.

Breakfast of Champions
The coffee came with creamy milk frothing and got a purr of approval from my hubby and the tea was delicious, not too hot and while it continued to brew the whole breakfast, did not get bitter - making my inner Tea Grinch grow a happy heart.

Even the function packages are pretty
I did however find myself cursing our western culture as other peoples' food, a five grain porridge and superfood breakfast bowl, was being served and I realised it would be poorly received if I asked if I could taste their food.
I honestly can't find any negatives at this cafe. The pricing was extremely reasonable - especially for South Yarra and this extended to Function prices in their beautiful upstairs area - catering for up to 150. (where we have already booked for a birthday).
Overall here's my penny themed rating. Definitely, DEFINATELY go support this new cafe, I'll bet you a penny you won't be disappointed.
