Fledgling horror author, Ro, visits her local diner to escape the loneliness of being alone on the holidays. There she meets four strangers, all equally alone, whom she invites for Christmas dinner at her house. Each guest shares a seasonally appropriate ghost story.
Lucky Girl is a novella by Shirley Jackson award winner, M. Rickert. I picked this book up because I like Krampus stories, and it did deliver on the promised seasonal creepiness. It's so short that it's hard to say much about it without spoiling anything. The ending is a little obvious, but it gets the atmosphere just right for my liking.
Lucky Girl is a quirky horror novella that would make a fun holiday read if you're into creepy Christmas tales. If you do like that sort of thing, you should also check out
A Midnight Clear , an anthology of holiday themed speculative fiction stories.
