Meat Lovers Heaven
LP's Quality Meats can be sensed before it can be seen as you walk down Chippen Street. An unassuming Chippendale hideaway made for carnivores with dine-in and takeaway options, this Luke Powell run joint is the place to go for smoked meats in Sydney. Not that you'd expect anything less from the guy who has had his hand in the successes of Tetsuya, Mary's Newtown and Ester.
Now, smoked meats are pretty common these days with charcuterie at its peak, but LP's Quality Meats varies it up. Even the most voracious foodie will be confronted with a mix of conventional smoked meats like pork or BBQ chicken as well as more outlandish items like smoked beef tongue or spiced blood sausage.
Vegetarians and pescatarians don't need to despair either; although the place is famous for the smoked meats there are a few items on the menu that are edible like an eggplant parmigiana or smoked tinned sprats. Vegans will have less joy, as most of the vegetarian items contain dairy.
All the dishes are designed to share and are pretty big. Our group of three ordered the pickles, the blood sausage (don't be put off by the name), the 1kg T-Bone (which comes with four amazing condiments), mash and gravy and a tomato salad and we only just made it through. Nonetheless, when the food tastes this good it's worth finishing up every last morsel - even if stumbling to your car afterwards is more exercise than your body can handle.
The atmosphere of this little meat-lovers oasis is intimate, warm and welcoming with an awesome industrial flair as the open plan kitchen buzzes with activity with the machinery in full view. The staff know their meat and they are friendly and attentive - they even let you split the bill.
