For many years now, the township of Loxton has shone brighter over the Christmas season than any other towns in the Riverland and this year is no different. The month-long Loxton Lights Festival will once again create a memorable experience for both locals and visitors.
Starting from Saturday the 27th of November 2021, Loxton's main street as well as clusters of residential homes throughout town will be adorned with fabulous Christmas trees, scenes, paintings and light displays. A fireworks spectacular will kick off the festival with a bang on Light Up Day. And, between 9am and 7pm, children can also visit Santa in his magical workshop.
A must-see during the festival is Peter Manglesdorf's privately-owned Christmas Wonderland display on Fairweather Avenue. The display stretches over 250 metres and includes a Bethlehem nativity scene, Christmas village, cartoon characters and more. I was really amazed at how incredible these illuminations and lights were when I visited a couple of years ago. It is sad though that 2021 will be the last year for this display at his property after 37 years. Although difficult, the decision has been made as he needed to look after his health.
The full list of events, including an illustrated and animated Shine, Christmas tree festival, light show and carols, can be found on their website. Do check it out and start planning for your trip to Loxton.
